Theatre back to Square One with Miller's 'A View from a Bridge'

Wednesday November 04 2009
SQUARE ONE'S latest production is underway at the Mermaid Arts Centre. Arthur Miller's 'A View from a Bridge,' will be on in the Bray theatre until Saturday night, starting at 8 p.m. every evening.
Paul Flynn directs local group Square One in the play, regarded by many as Miller's greatest work. Loosely based on a true story it is set in the Italian-Americal community of Red Hook, Brooklyn.
The play centres around the tribulations of Eddie Carbone and his wife Beatrice as well as Beatrice's niece Catherine, who lives with them. Eddie's relationship with Catherine changes from being paternal to one of infatuation and lust as she reaches 18 years.
Beatrice's two cousins, illegal immigrants from Italy, are invited to stay at the house. What follows affects all and irreparably damages the community.
Square One drama group stages two 3-act plays each year and a one-act play in the Bray One-Act Drama Festival, all in the Mermaid Theatre. New members are always welcome. For more information call (01) 2860281.
