CUALANN SOCIETY
Last Thursday night Leslie Brown was the guest speaker for the November meeting of the Bray Cualann Historical Society in the Bray Chamber of Commerce House at which he presented his illustrated lecture on 'Irish Antique Maps'.
In his lecture Leslie Brown covered the history of map makings and the early map makers such as Speed and Rocque and the type of information included on them. Modern scientific mapping began with the establishment of the ordnance Survey which still continues to update its maps at regular intervals.
Leslie Brown also covered military maps and showed the differences in details and colours used on military maps compared to civilian ones due to the different requirements of the military. Brian white gave a short talk on 'The Life and Times of J.J. Gaskin'.
There is no meeting of the Bray Cualann Historical Society in December and the next meeting of the Society will be in January when the AGM of the Society will take place and will be followed b y talk from Bryan MacMahon from the Kilmacud/ Stillorgan Historical Society.
COMMUNITY MOTHERS

YOUTH ART FESTIVAL
The Seomra Youth café, part of the Bray Youth & Information service, is a calling all Youth Groups, Art Groups and artistically minded individuals in Bray who may be interested in involved with the first even 'Bray Youth Art Festival' which will take place from November 23 to 28 – further information from Greg or Clay at 01-2764 783.
CHORAL SOCIETY

BRAY CANCER SUPPORT
As part of its 20th Anniversary Celebrations 1990-2010, special memories, stories or poems of Bray Cancer Support Centre are being sought with the aim of publishing a book of recollections of Bray Cancer Support Centre past and preset over the last 20 years. OLD BRAY SOCIETY
The Old Bray Society will launch a new book in the Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray, at 5.30 p.m. on Friday December 4.
The first is Volume 7 in the highly successful 'Pictorial History of Bray' series of books and the second is 'Aspects of the War of Independence and Civil War in Wicklow'. Both these publications will be available on the night or afterwards from the Town Hall Bookshop.
