Golfers turn out to honour memory of friend Gavin

Wednesday November 04 2009

FRIENDS OF THE late Gavin Egan were sure he had a good laugh at all the 96 golfers who turned up to play in his memory recently at Bray Golf Club, despite heavy rain.

'The talk on the day was that he probably had something to do with the weather being the way it was!' said a pal.

Despite the downpours, everyone was in great spirits and the day of golf was a huge success.

The evening entertainment was provided by Derek Quigley John Barle & Mick, and by John and Ste Ward of Hapf Cut. All of them played free of charge for the cause, which was a fundraiser for his wife Denise and her children. There was over € 15,000 raised for them on the day.

In between musical performances there was a very successful raffle with plenty of prizes up for grabs. There was also an auction on the night which was run by Robert Downey of Dooley/Downey auctioneers. Organisers were very grateful to Robert and the musicians for donating their time as well as everyone who sponsored boxes and greens or donated prizes for the raffle.

Keith from Goldsmiths, who organised the event, said that he was particularly grateful to Glen Currums, Robert Redmond, Mark Mitchell, Antoinette Bradshaw, and Noel McCuillan, all of whom helped to make the day such a triumph.

The golf clubhouse was packed to capacity on Friday evening, in a real testament to Gavin's popularity and how much he is missed.
