PARENT AND TODDLER
The Parent and Toddler group has started again in Newtownmountkennedy, meeting every Thursday morning in the Parents' Room in St.Joseph's Centre. All parents, grandparents, childminders, are invited to attend with the little ones from 9.30am.
SCHOOL NEWS
SPRINGTIME RAFFLE: Our major Fundraising event, the Springtime Raffle will take place during the month of March. For €15 you are entered in 10 Draws with a chance to win big money prizes in each draw. Tickets are now on sale from the school office or from local collectors.
The support of our local community is greatly appreciated for all our fundraising events. Your generosity on this occasion will help to enhance the computer facilities for all our pupils.
HEALTHY EATING: March is healthy eating month in our school. Children are encouraged to bring Fruit or Vegetables as snacks for little break instead of bars and biscuits.
Thank you to Eugene's foodstore who sponsored tastings of fruit and vegetables for the week of March 1 and to Dunnes Stores who are the sponsor of the programme this week.
GREEN SCHOOL: Ms.Foley, our Green School Co-ordinator has announced a poster competition to raise Energy Awareness with prizes for individual children in each class. Closing date is March 26.
HEINEKEN CUP: There was great excitement when Reggie Corrigan brought the Heineken Cup to the school on Monday. Thanks to Michael Lane for organising this fantastic opportunity to share in the Leinster Glory an to raise our voices in "Ireland's Call"
GAA NOTES
With the new season now in full swing, here are the people guiding the fortunes of Newtown GAA Club for 2010. Senior: Joe Clifford, Pat Carthy and Pat Kenny. Junior: Jas Carthy, Marty Heffernan. Minor: Shay Power, Ross Odlum, Rory Chester. U-16: Papa Davis, Brigid Davis. U-14: Trevor Doyle, Tom Cronin. U-12: Peter Turner, Tom Doyle, Sean Power. U-10: Marty Heffernan. U-8 Football: Frank Murphy, Mark Doyle. U-10 and U-8 Hurling: Shay Walsh, Andy Kavanagh. We sincerely hope that all our management teams have a most prosperous and successful season in 2010.
Congratulations to all our Inter-County teams, our Senior Footballers, our Ladies Team and our Hurlers, following their successful weekend.
Please note that club membership fees are now due and must be paid in order to ensure membership for the coming year. Senior Membership is €40 and Juvenile Membership is €15.
There will be a registration night in the Newtown GAA Clubhouse on Wednesday April 7 at 7 p.m. All those who wish to become members or renew their memberships are asked to attend on that night. For anyone who wishes to pay beforehand, they can contact Brian Doyle (Senior Registrar) or Brigid Davis (Juvenile Registrar).

From Monday March 29 until Thursday April 1 we will be hosting an F.A.I. Aviva Soccer Sisters Easter Camp. Cost to participate is €60 and is open to girls aged 7-11 years and will be held in the Community Centre. For further details contact Hughie on 087-6987653.

The AGM was held during February which was charied by Councillor Pat Casey Chaired the meeting held in the Community Centre.
The newly elected officers are: Chairman Pat Flood, Secretatry Mary Kavanagh-Kirby, Treasurer Vincent Nugent, Youth Officer Siobhain Kavanagh. New Members can contact Mary Kavanagh-kirby 087 2573291. New Members are very welcome.
Local Issues raised were as follows: The need for a water supply to Kilmurray Graveyard (Pat Casey informed the meeting that this issue is almost resolved). The condition and repair of Kilmurray churchyard was discussed; Tarring of St. Patrick's Road and the condition of footpaths there; Bollards needed for the walk way through to St Patricks Rd; Buses turning back for Dublin/Greystones having only come as far as the Garden Village; No footpaths from Garden Village to Newtown main street and also lack of lighting there; Road safety at Rossmore junction with Kiladreenan and also the Monaline Crossroads with no footpath to GAA pitch.

BOWLING
The East Coast Indoor Bowling League is coming to an end for this season soon. In section B each club have played at least 10 out of 12 matches and the A section have played 9 out of 10 with two clubs Kilcoole, and Gorey, having played 10 of 10.
The scores up to March 7 are: Section A - Newtown played 9,46 points. Kilcoole played 10, 38 points. Wicklow played 9, 25 points. Greystones played 9, 4 points, Newcastle played 9, 15 points Gorey, played 10, 40 points.
Section B - Newtown B1, played 9, 31 points,. Newtown B2, played 10, 42 points, Kilcoole played 10, 16 points. Wicklow played 10, 28 points. Redcross played 10, 46 points. Gorey B1 played 10, 27 points. Gorey B2 played 11, 20 points.
Newtown bowling club are hosting the ladies singles on Saturday April 17. Some names have been sent to Jim those who have not sent in their names are asked to do so a.s.a.p. (at least 5 from each club or as many as you can).
The trio is being held in the Methodist hall in Wicklow this Saturday March 13, hosted by Newcastle. Each club have one team with Newtown having two teams to even things up. The names for the upcoming singles in Newcastle on Saturday March 27 can be given to Newcastle on March 13 to enable the draw to be drawn up.
