Richard Pryor concert
As part of their stand-up comedy night, on Tuesday, February 7, the Greystones Film Club will be presenting Richard Pryor: Live In Concert (1979), regarded by many within the industry as the greatest stand-up concert film ever.
Beloved by everyone from Eddie Murphy to Eddie Izzard, Richard Pryor: Live In Concert was recorded at the Terrace Theatre in California, and captures a comedian at the height of his powers.
Having risen up through the Chitlin circuit over the previous 15 years, soon Pryor would be taking Hollywood by storm. Here, he's not only pioneering the way for a whole new generation of black comedians (Chris Rock is another who sees this film as his bible), but Pryor is also capturing America at a crossroads, when black Americans no longer needed to 'say it loud'.
The Film Appreciation of Greystones Society's Get Up! Stand Up! night presents Richard Pryor: Live In Concert next Tuesday, February 7, at 8 p.m. Tickets/membership is €2, including free tea/coffee, and maybe even a biscuit.
