SATURDAY VIGIL MASS
The Roundwood Parish Pastoral Council is having a three month trial of mass at 6.30 p.m. on a Saturday evening to replace the 8 p.m. mass. This trial period will run to Saturday May 15.
WHIST RESULTS
The results of the whist in aid of the Senior Citizens is as follows: Top Score: Mary Jo O'Malley; Top Gent: Anne Gaffney; Second Gent: Margaret Kennedy; Top Lady: May Kenna; Second Lady: Bridie Lowe; First Half: Richie Cullen; Second Half: Biddy O'Connor/Jimmy Molloy (shared); Longest Sitting: Patricia Byrne & Lowest Score: Tiney Shortt/Maureen Gaffney (shared).
Raffle prizes were won by Mary Pierce, Mary Jo O'Malley, Margaret Kennedy and Lucy Molloy. The next whist will be on Wednesday March 10 in the Parish Centre.
MONEYSTOWN DANCE
Tony Davitt will play in Moneystown Community Centre on Friday March 12 from 9.30 p.m. till 12 midnight. Come along and enjoy a night of waltzing, jive etc. Tea served, spot prizes, refreshments also available.
GAA INDOOR TRAINING
An Tochar GAA U8/U10 girls indoor training takes place on Thursday nights from 6.30 to 7.30 p.m.
HISTORICAL SOCIETY
The Roundwood and District Historical Society held their A.G.M. on February 22. The committee for 2010 is Chairperson Elinor Medlycott, Vice Chairperson: Christy Plunkett, Secretary Derek Neilson, Fixtures Secretary John Medlycott, Treasurer Joe McNally, PRO Colm Galligan and Hon. Auditor Bat Corcoran.
The chairperson thanked everyone for their support especially the people of Roundwood and further afield who helps in so many ways, those who submit articles for publication and all who sell and buy our Journal.
The Chairperson also paid tribute to Imelda Duffy who launched our journal and those who allow us to visit buildings and sites of interest. To the many people who gave lectures during the year which was varied and interesting a big thank you. Thanks also to Mary Margaret Molloy who submits our notices to the Roundwood Notes in the Wicklow People. The treasurer joined her in thanking our patrons who have continuously supported us and enables us to publish a yearly journal.
The monthly meetings will continue on the last Monday of each month in the Old School Roundwood. The next meeting will be on March 29.
HAITI FUNDRAISER
Roundwood Fianna Fail Cumann will host a fundraiser for Trocaire's Haiti Earthquake Appeal on Friday March 5 in Kavanagh's Vartry House. Tickets are €10 which includes entry into a Grand Prize Draw. Music is by John Flood and the doors open at 9 p.m. Please come along and support.
FIRST RESPONDERS
Would you know how to help someone suffering with chest pain, choking or cardiac arrest? Learn a valuable life saving skill and join the Community First Responder teams in Laragh, Moneystown and Roundwood.
The next training session takes place on April 17/18, with a limited number of places available. To book a place contact Sheila (Laragh) on 087 2121522, Catriona (Moneystown) on 086 8138483 or Marion on 087 2502201. Group members should be willing to go on the local on call rota and attend regular local training updates.
COFFEE MORNING
There will be a coffee morning in Kavanagh's in conjunction with the East Coast FM Wicklow Wide Coffee Morning on Friday, April 16 between 9.30 a.m. and 12 noon. All monies raised will go to Wicklow Cancer Services and Wicklow Hospice Foundation
STAR GAZING
An Evening of Star Gazing with the Irish Astronomical Society takes place this Saturday March 6.
The evening starts off with a talk by Deirdre Kelleghan of the Irish Astronomical Society on the Cassini-Huygens Mission to Saturn and Her Moons at the Education Centre, Upper Lake, Glendalough at 7 p.m. Come along and find out about the Cassini space craft and its mission to discover more about Saturn and its moons.
The talk will be followed (weather permitting) with Star Gazing focusing on Saturn and her Moons at the Upper lake area between 8-10 p.m. Come along and observe Saturn, the moon and the night sky. Members of the Irish Astronomical Society will have powerful telescopes set up.
This event is dependant on clear skies and good weather! Please phone Wicklow Mountains National Park Information Office on 0404 45425 on the day, to check that the star gazing part of the event will take place.
DIAMOND BRIDGE CLUB
Winners of competition on Monday February 22 were Ger Lenihan and Gaye McGettigan, Brid Clancy and Adrienne Walsh were a close 2nd whilst Mary Murphy and Kay Plunkett were 3rd and Mary Pierce and Catherine McGillycuddy were 4th.
002 BRIDGE
Jim McNamara and Sandra Dunne played their cards right on Friday February 26 to take 1st place, Rowena Brady and Maria Magee were 2nd, Ger Lenihan and Kay Plunkett were 3rd and Fr. Kelly and Gaye McGettigan were 4th.
LOTTO RESULTS
Congratulations to G Fletcher who scooped the jackpot in last Sundays lotto draw; the numbers drawn were 6, 10, 18 and 21.
