Schools in line for top awards

Wednesday February 01 2012

FOUR schools from County Wicklow have been shortlisted for a prestigious CREST Award this year. This is the second year of the awards which were presented for the first time ever in this country last year by President Mary Mcaleese.

This year's awards will take place in The Helix in Dublin on Thursday February 9 and will be presented by Commissioner Máire Geoghegan- Quinn.

St. Gerard's in Bray have two teams up for the awards, as well as St. Mary's & St. Gerard's NS in Enniskerry, and Blessington Community College. The prestigious awards which have been running in the UK for the past 25 years, are organised in Ireland by The Galway Education Centre in association with The British Science Association and aim to recognise the Creativity in Science and Technology of work carried out by Irish students, aged 11 – 19 years of age, in the important STEM subjects in Irish Schools today.

Three levels of excellence will be awarded to students through the Irish CREST awards scheme - Bronze, Silver and Gold.
