CHURCH DRAMA FESTIVAL

St. James' Church, Crinken, will host this event on Friday February 10th at 7.45pm. Presented by Parabalos with Bishop Ken Clark, this is an informal evening which introduces simple drama pieces designed for use in church services and is designed for all who are interested in discovering how drama can enhance an understanding of the Christian faith. Times of Masses: Mass is celebrated in St. Anne's Church at 10am and 7.30pm Monday to Friday, (except during July & August). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30pm Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8am, (9am in St. Patrick's Church in St. Columcille's Hospital), 10.30am (Family Mass), 12 Noon, and 6pm. Confessions are heard on Saturdays after the 10am Mass, between 12.30pm and 1pm and after the 6.30pm Mass.

Mass from St. Anne's: Mass is now broadcast on-line and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website:www.stannesparishshankill.com and then clicking onto video link.

St. Anne's Resource Centre Hours: St. Anne's Resource Centre is open 9am to 8.30pm Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9am to 3pm. Those requiring Baptism / Confirmation certificates or application forms for Baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the Parish Office is the only place where certificates and application forms can be processed.

St Anne's Parish Office Hours: The Parish Office is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and Friday from 9am to 3pm.

Baptisms: Baptisms take place in St. Anne's Church at 12.45pm on the 1st Sunday of the Month and at 5pm on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Saturdays of the Month. A month's notice is required. Please contact the St. Anne's Parish Office located in St. Anne's Resource Centre to make your arrangements. Please note that when visiting the Parish Office to arrange a baptism, the child's birth certificate should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediately.

St Anne's Parish Pastoral Council: The February meeting of the PPC takes place next Monday night at 8pm on in St. Anne's Resource Centre The PPC can be contacted anytime via the Parish Office in St. Anne's Resource Centre.

Services of Worship: This Sunday - The Third Sunday Before Lent - Services of Worship are 8.30am Holy Communion, 11am Holy Communion and 7pm Evening Prayer - Lector Ingrid Baugh.

The Alpha / In-between Book Club: Last night (Tuesday) Ms. Dianna Hastings hosted the January meeting at which the book for discussion and review was ' The Gurnsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society ' by Mary Ann Shaffer. ' The Purple Hibiscus ' by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was the book selected for review and discussion at the February meeting.

Confirmation 2012: The Archbishop of Dublin, The Most Revd. Michael Jackson, will confirm candidates from this parish together with candidates from Greystones, Newcastle, Bray, Kilternan and Tallow in Christ Church Bray on Sunday March 4th at 7pm. Confirmation classes will commence tonight ( Wednesday) at 6.30pm in the Committee Room of Rathmichael Church.

Table Quiz: A table quiz in aid of Trust, a social and health service for people who are homeless will take place in the crypt of Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, on Friday February 10th at 7.30pm €30 per table of 4. Refreshments and Raffle on the night. ACTIVE RETIREMENT

On Saturday morning the February First Saturday Book Sale which supports Shankill Old Folks Association and Meals on Wheels takes place from 10.am to 1pm in the Shankill Old Folks Association Centre, Lower Road, so make a point of calling in as you never know what you might find as this book sale will be an ideal place to obtain some excellent reading material. Donations of books , other than t school or text books, welcomed and appreciated. SHANKILL LIBRARY

The opening hours for Shankill Library are 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 5pm on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. One of the most severe weather events to hit Ireland and Britain in 1740 is the subject of tonight's (Wednesday) meeting of the Rathmichael Historical Society - Shankill's own local history society - at 8pm in Rathmichael School, Stonebridge Road (Dublin Road end), Shankill, when David Dickson, author of ' Arctic Ireland - The extraordinary story of the Great Frost and Forgotten Famine of 1740 - 41 ' , will present his lecture on ' The "Little "Ice Age: 1740-1741" and all are welcome to attend.

After several months of below zero temperatures, the cold weather was followed by drought, a famine in which thousands died, and then excessive rainfall before weather condition retuned to normal. All are welcome to attend this lecture.

New members welcome - existing members are reminded that annual membership subscriptions fell due for renewal on January 1st and can be renewed at this meeting. All welcome. THANK YOU

The organisers of last Friday's Scoff Our Scones / Sip Our Soup which took place in St. Anne's Resource Centre to raise some badly needed funds needed funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (the lifeboats), extend their sincere thanks to all those who supported this event. PROTEST MEETING

Tomorrow night (Thursday) the Campaign Against Water Charges and the Property Tax will hold a public protest meeting in Shanganagh Park House at 7.30pm and all are welcome to attend. CLASSICAL MUSIC CLUB

The February meeting of the Shankill Classical Music Club takes place tonight (Wednesday) at 7.45pm in the Shankill Old Folk's Association Centre, Lower Road, Shankill. New members welcome. Several groups from Shankill attended the recent public meeting in Dalkey at which the application by an oil and exploration company for a Foreshore Licence in order to permit seismic and site studies and the drilling of an exploration well off the coast, was discussed. A number of people representing view bon this issue addressed the meeting. LOCAL HISTORY TALK

Shankill based local historian James Scannell will be the guest speaker for the February 8th meeting of the BallybrackKilliney Historical Society at 8pm in the upstairs lounge of The Graduate, Rochestown Avenue, Killiney, at which he will present his lecture on ' Living in Dublin and Killiney in 1911 ' and all are welcome to attend.
