184 bus to continue through Delgany as roadworks last extra two months
Wednesday November 19 2008
THE 184 BUS is still to operate through Delgany, it has emerged, but only in one direction, due to the traffic calming roadworks at Delgany National School, which will now go on for an extra two months.
Dublin Bus have put paid to rumours that the service to Delgany would cease for good, but said that the temporary traffic lights are delaying the bus far too much.
A spokesperson said that normal service will resume as soon as the lights are gone.
The 184 is the only form of public transport through the village serving the elderly, school children, people connecting with the dart and more. The route will now go around the longer way back to Greystones rather than turning back as it had done in the past.
The Area Engineer, Eoin Heslin, said that the traffic calming roadworks should be completed by the end of November. Part of the road had been widened to assist traffic flow.
However, the culvert at the end of Delgany Wood flooded in August, flooding many houses, and a larger one is being designed. This will not be installed until January and he stated that a short stretch of temporary traffic lights will have to remain.
'I am glad that the flooding is being tackled but concerned that the lights will be in place so long,' said Cllr. Derek Mitchell. 'People have been subject to delay for nearly six months.'
It was also announced that the improvements to road and paths from Tesco to Killincarrig Cross would take until Christmas and would also need traffic lights.
