Amusement arcade on Florence Road would be 'out of character'

Number 25, Florence Road which was previously the Carpet House.
A PROPOSAL to open an amusement arcade on Florence Road was met with opposition from councillors at last Tuesday's meeting of Bray Town Council.
The planning application by Brian Mohan was lodged at last month and refers to 25 Florence Road. The application is for a change of use of existing unit from carpet sales to amusements.
'It would be totally out of character,' remarked Cllr. Pat Vance. 'Areas were zoned in certain locations years ago for gaming. Florence Road was not one of them. There will be serious repercussions if this is allowed. We do not want an amusement arcade in the middle of the town.'
Cllr. John Byrne supported Cllr. Vance, saying he would be 'totally opposed,' to the development. 'We as a council were very successful in restricting areas where gaming can take place,' said Cllr. Byrne.
Cllr. Ciaran O'Brien said that it would 'go against what the rejuvenation committee had stood for.'
'We need to enhance the retail outlets of the main shopping area in Bray,' said Cllr. Eugene Finnegan, with the agreement of both Cllr. Ronan McManus and the Cathaoirleach of BTC John Ryan.
