Bus corridor gets council approval
Wednesday March 10 2010
A QUALITY BUS CORRIDOR for Bray was given the green light at last Tuesday's meeting of Bray Town Council.
After some discussion, and a vote on whether or not to vote, the plans were passed by an almost unanimous vote. Cllr. Pat Vance was the only member to reject the QBC.
Some councillors asked that the vote be taken after this week's municipal policy meeting but that request was rejected.
The scheme is proposed for Main Street and Castle Street as well as Florence Road, Quinsboro Road, and Killarney Road.
Cllr. Eugene Finnegan, also the owner of a private bus company in the town welcomed the plans.
However, he also suggested that parking spaces be removed from the Vevay Hill to allow two-way traffic. He explained that currently two buses cannot pass each other in opposite directions on that hill, with one having to wait at the top.
Cllr. Mick Glynn said that it is a 'massive project,' and welcomed it in principal while accepting the concerns of retailers about the scheme.
'Aspects of it are good and aspects of it are bad,' said Cllr. Pat Vance who said that it needed more discussion.
However, the town Manager Des O'Brien called the decision a 'no-brainer,' adding that public transport was the only way to get people through the town. He said that it would improve traffic flow for everyone.
