WICKLOW TRIATHLON CLUB

Wicklow Triathlon Club celebrated their five-year anniversary of its founding in style in the Glenview Hotel last Saturday.

The back tie ball was planned by Deidre Hough, the social secretary of the club, with over one hundred in attendance.

The ball rounds off a very successful season for the club, who became the 2009 national club champions.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS F.C.

It was a complete washout on the field for all our teams last weekend, while the prospects for next weekend are not encouraging with more rain forecast.

The following are the fixtures for the week-ending Saturday 28th/Sunday 29th November.

Under-8's away to Greystones 'A', k.o. to be confirmed; under-9's - fixture to be confirmed; under-10's - fixture to be confirmed; under-12's at home to St. Peter's, k.o. Sunday at 10 a.m.; under-13's away to Ardmore Rovers 'B', k.o. Saturday at 10 a.m.; under-12 girls at home to Enniskerry, k.o. Sunday t.b.c. (fixtures and kick-off times are subject to change).

We had our bag pack in Dunnes stores last weekend and it proved to be a great success. Many thanks to all the players, parents, managers and commitee members for volunteering their time, to the staff and management of Dunnes for giving us the opportunity and to all the customers who all gave so generously.

Better late than never we send birthday greetings to under-10's comanager Stephen Nolan who celebrated his birthday on the 22nd of November. Happy birthday Stephen from everyone at Newtown Juniors F.C. For all news regarding Newtown Juniors please contact Hughie at 087-6987653 or visit our website www.newtownjuniors.com.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Shay Lynch after a long illness. Shay was a long serving member on the Wicklow Schoolboys/girls leagues and we send our condolances to his wife Collette, family and friends. We also wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the Daly family in Kilcoole on their recent bereavement.

WICKLOW ROVERS

Yet again the weather took its toll on our club fixtures with only our U13B team getting to play. They travelled to Greystones where they played on the all weather pitch and even though they lost to a strong Greystones Unite A team, with a bit of luck they could have got something out of this game. Jack Frazer got their lone goal, lets hope the weather is kinder for football next week.

For any of our club members, players and parents who would like to be kept updated with the progress of their team or any team in the club (schoolboy/girl section) you can find all the relevant information regards fixtures, results, league tables, etc. on the league website at www.wdsl.league.ie.

We are in the process of setting up our own club website at the moment and we hope to have it up and running soon, further details will be in the club notes in the coming weeks.

The next monthly managers meeting is set for Monday the 7th of December at 8 o'clock in the clubhouse, hope to see all managers in attendance. Assistant managers also welcome to attend.

All at Wicklow Rovers would like to extend their sincere sympathy to the families and friends of Mick Vickers, Kathleen Teevan and Maura Corkish who sadly passed away recently, may they Rest In Peace.

Also the club would like to extend their deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Shay Lynch who gave years of dedicated service on the committee of the Wicklow District Schoolboys/girls League, may

he Rest In Peace.

BRAY HOCKEY CLUB

Botanic 1, Bray Ladies 3rds 2: Bray Ladies 3rds travelled to Botanic on a miserable Saturday afternoon eager to gain three points.

Centre-forward Caoimhe Guilfoyle had the first touch of the ball and made an impressive run up the pitch only be to be stopped by Botanic's defence.

Vice-captain Caroline Kennedy, returning from injury, made a huge impact on the game as centre mid feeding the ball up to the forwards and being an integral part of the defence.

Twenty minutes into the first half Bray got the goal they deserved when Kim Leonard snuck a goal in behind the goalie. Bray kept the game pace up with moments later Diana Dunne finding the top corner of the net with a well executed strike from the top of the circle.

Sadly in the dying minutes of the first half, Botanic's centre-forward sneaked through the defence to leave the teams a goal apart entering the second half. Having a renewed energy in the second half Bray made impressive runs into the circle but couldn't find another goal.Bray's solid defence kept out Botanic from equalising. Cara McDonald as sweeper was undoubtedly Bray's player of the game, having made a fantastic tackle with Botanic's centre-forward in the dying seconds of the game to ensure Bray held onto the three points. Next week Bray face Pembroke at home eager to stay on the winning streak.

SOUTH EAST ROAD CLUB

The South East Road club held it's under age championship recently. The threat of unfavourable weather did not deter the entry in each of the four categories. It was a very well supported event with the parents of competitors turning up to cheer on and encourage their offspring.

The club championship is an indicator of improvements made by cyclists in the course of the season. Despite the fact that many cyclists having not raced competitively since August a very good standard of fitness was evident.

In the combined under-14 and 16 races, Tony Breen powered away to an impressive solo victory and is one of the most improved riders in the club this year.

The under-14 race was a keen battle between doughty competitors, Leinster squad member, Stephen Bracken from Inch, Gorey and Niall Heffernan, Ballylacey, Gorey.

The latter is another rider who has improved immeasurably during the year and will be well in contention in all races in the under-14 category next year. This race also saw two newcomers taking part in their first race. They were first cousins Oliver Hill and Leslie Hill, both of them put in fine and determined performances against much more experienced opposition.

The under-12 race went to one of the country's top under age cyclists, Reece Young followed home by Becky Heaney, who as always showed what a fine competitor she is, while promising newcomer Keith Doyle put in a strong performance to take third.

For the first time in his cycling career consistent race-winner Elliot Young had to share first prize with Darragh Heffernan who showed plenty of battling qualities in the under-10 race. Elliott battled through the pain barrier as he suffered a knee injury in another activity and is now taking a rest from cycling on medical advice.

The club also welcomed home club members, Garret McCabe and Derrick Evans for their first outing in a number of weeks after their magnificent exploits in the Florida Ironman.

Members are also reminded that there will be coaching on Saturday and Sunday next with leading coach and top-class cyclist, Martin O'Loughlin at the helm for what promises to be very informative coaching sessions. It is intended for cyclists of all ages and younger members are particularly welcome UNDERAGE RESULTS Under-10: Joint first – Darragh Heffernan and Elliott Young.

Under-12: 1. Reece Young;

2. Becky Heaney; 3. Keith Doyle.

Under-14: 1. Stephen Bracken; 2. Niall Heffernan.

Under-16: 1. Tony Breen; 2. Leslie Hill; 3. Oliver Hill.
