Commercial policy daft, says Timmins
WICKLOW T.D. BILLY TIMMINS has called on John Gormley to 'recognise reality' and reverse what he's described as the 'daft' new policy to prevent tradesmen, salespeople and farmers from using commercial vehicles for occasional personal use.
Billy Timmins says John Gormley's plan seems to suggest that gardaí will be asked to police church car parks, school yards, shopping centres and sports clubs to find commercial vehicles being used outside the workplace.
Minister Gormley's proposal is stronger enforcement of the law requiring drivers of commercial vehicles to legally declare the vehicle is for work purposes only. Deputy Timmins said that it is hypocritical of a party which criticises energy waste, to be forcing people to buy a second vehicle for all non-work related journeys.
'It's a policy which will drive small business people onto the dole queues,' he said.
