THE BIG APPLE beckons for Cllr. Pat Vance and Wicklow County Manager Eddie Sheehy, after a failed attempt this week to halt the County Council trip to the New York St. Patrick's Day parade.
Another Bray Councillor, John Brady, along with his Sinn Féin colleague John Snell were the driving forces behind the bid at this week's council meeting to have the trip cancelled, in light of the current recession.
'Sending people off for a hooley in New York is not a way to get out of economic difficulties. In light of the fact that the council has laid off 70 people, it would be totally inappropriate for us to send public representatives abroad,' he said.
Most other councillors remained in favour of the trip however, claiming that Wicklow people abroad like to see their councillors come to visit them, and also that there could be tourism spin-offs from the presence of Pat Vance and Eddie Sheehy in New York.
