A MASSIVE fire took hold of Bray Head in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Fire fighters were called to the scene at around 3 a.m. on Sunday. The fire was blazing on the east side of the hill, towards the sea and access was very difficult.
Firemen spent two hours working to quell the blaze which was the second of its kind in as many weeks.
Because access was almost impossible, fire fighting vehicles could not be brought up and the personnel had to use shovels to fight the inferno.
While some damage to the cliff walk side of Bray Head has been cause, fire fighters had the wind on their side and were able to get the flames under control.
Such fires have been occurring in the north Wicklow area since early sprint. Fire personnel continue to ask anyone intending to burn scrub to alert the fire service. Gorse can be burned from September to March.
However, it is unclear what caused the blaze on Bray Head at the weekend.
