A GRAFFITI vandal who desecrated a Baptist Church has seen his work backfire, as quick-thinking church members turned the spray-painted words into a message from scripture.
In recent weeks the words ' There is no God' were sprayed across the Baptist church building in Arklow, causing an eyesore for worshippers and neighbours alike.
The vandal responsible was unaware that Bible scripture also contains these words and members of the church completed the excerpt from Psalm 14 by spraying 'The fool hath said in his heart: there is no God.'
Speaking to The Wicklow People, Baptist Church member Jim Kelly said that the response is not a permanent fixture and that it is to be painted off in the near future.
'We wanted to send the message that the belief expressed in the graffiti has been referred to in the Bible in a couple of Psalms and that the person who vandalised the church didn't realise they were in fact quoting the gospel. The neighbours are understandably not happy with such vandalism and we will be painting it off shortly.'
Mr. Kelly added that in the past year since the Baptist Church was set up in Arklow it has not endured much trouble apart from this incident and some egg throwing at the building.
'We are a small church at the moment but we are working within the community and have two services every week so we are hoping to grow in the future,' he concluded.
