Good weather also magnet for rubbish
Wednesday September 16 2009
THE PROMENADE bins were overflowing and surrounded by piles of rubbish at the end of last weekend, the good weather having attracted crowds of people to Bray's seafront.
However, unlike previous summers, the litter appeared to be mainly bagged up and left beside a full bin rather than discarded all over the seafront.
Triona Irving, acting Town Clerk of Bray Town Council, explained that financial constraints means that the Town Council simply does not have the resources to cope with the extra litter on Saturdays and Sundays when the weather is fine. Council staff were out on Monday during normal working hours to clean up.
Local man Michal Hannon took a photograph at 8 a.m. on Monday.
'The bins on the front were full to overflow,' he said. 'I am aware of the great work the men who look after the Promenade do and it is a credit to their commitment the area. It is usually a pleasure to walk esplanade.'
