Greens welcome disability u-turn
GREEN Party member and Bray Town Councillor Caroline Burrell welcomed the announcement that the proposal to raise the age limit for the disability allowance from 16 to 18 will not go ahead.
'I am delighted that the Minister has seen fit to accept the argument that those currently in receipt of the allowance who are under 18 years of age should continue to receive that payment,' she said after Minister for Social Welfare and Family Affairs Mary Hanafin announced that 16 and 17-year-olds would continue to get disability allowance.
The allowance will continue pending a full review of the scheme.
