Had stolen diamond earrings

Wednesday February 01 2012

A FATHER of five who was found with stolen diamond earrings and other jewellery has been ordered to keep the peace for two years.

John Moorehouse (30) was stopped and searched by Garda Cormac Walsh on Upper Dargle Road on May 19.

Garda Walsh found the earrings, a gold chain and a silver bracelet in his possession. Moorehouse told Garda Walsh that he found the items on the side of the road.

It emerged that they had just been taken in a burglary on Herbert Road.

Solicitor Conway O'hara said that while his client always maintained that he had found the items in the street, he had decided nonetheless to plead guilty.

Garda Walsh said that he had no reason to disbelieve Moorehouse's story.
