Jailed for wearing Sex Pistols t-shirt
Dunleavy, from 42 Oldcourt Drive, wore the iconic yellow 'Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's The Sex Pistols' t-shirt to court, where he was facing a count of alleged shoplifting from the Woodie's DIY store on the Southern Cross Road.
The multi-tattooed punk, who also sports several body piercings was asked by Judge Connellan if he had 'any good reason' for wearing the famous shirt, which was designed by Vivienne Westwood.
When Dunleavy said 'no', Judge Connellan said he could 'contemplate his attire' for seven days, while in prison for contempt of court.
Clearly shocked by the decision, Dunleavy muttered the word 'a***hole'. Judge Connellan responded 'I can make it fourteen if you wish'.
'Do what you want,' said a defiant Dunleavy before being escorted from the court.
Later in the day, an attempt to allow Dunleavy purge his contempt was dismissed out of hand by Judge Connellan.
'His contempt was clear and brazen,' he said.
Dunleavy's partner, Lorraine Fitzpatrick, who was in court on the day, said she was horrified by what had happened.
'It's not as if he went and ironed the t-shirt before he went to court - he was wearing it because he's a punk fan, not for any other reason.
'To see him going to prison for seven days because of this is just not right,' she added.
Dunleavy is currently in custody and will appear before Bray District Court again on Friday next.
