CONCERNS were raised over the suitability of Greystones Interchange by Dublin Bus during last week's meeting of Greystones Town Council.

Speaking to the members Derry O'Leary of Dublin Bus said the interchange at Greystones Garda Station would not facilitate their buses.

He said Dublin Bus had only a minor consultative role in the design of the interchange which is due to be completed in mid February.

Town engineer Eoin Heslin said he had computer generated images of the finished interchange and they showed the lay by was suitable for Dublin Bus. 'From a design point of view it seems to work but it is tight', he said.

Cllr. George Jones said the town council had 'never signed off on the interchange and I think it is a walking disaster. It is disturbing to hear that Dublin Bus has concerns.'

Mr. Heslin said that Cllr. Jones had been 'sceptical of many projects' which had later worked out well 'and I am hoping the same will happen here'.

Speaking after the meeting Cllr. Hayden said the interchange had cost €500,000 and is now 'not fit for purpose. This is astonishing considering the amount of public money being wasted on this unpopular upgrade to the station area. Dublin Bus was to be the chief beneficiary from these works.'

Cllr. Hayden called on Dublin Transport Office who funded the scheme to explain the design flaw and provide additional funding to fix the problem. 'I am now calling for an immediate suspension of works until this problem is rectified,' he said pointing out that the works had caused traffic congestion on Church Road for months.
