Local Macra members win awards
ASHFORD/BALLYCOOG MEMBERS WIN AT NATIONAL LEADERSHIP AWARDS
MACRA NA Feirme branches in Co. Wicklow were well represented at this year's Bank of Ireland National Leadership Awards recently as two members were announced as a respective winner and finalist.
Garvan Hickey of Ashford Macra was delighted to be chosen as one of three winners while Mairead Whitty of Ballycoog Macra was named among three finalists.
Garvan and Mairead were notified in recent weeks that they had made it through to the finals of the national competition which tested their leadership skills within Macra and their interaction with the wider community.
The judging panel who interviewed the finalists included Irish Farmer's Journal's Mairead Lavery, former Macra president, Colm Markey and Bank of Ireland's Sean Farrell. Damien O'reilly, RTE Broadcaster, was the guest speaker on the night.
Garvan was presented with a commemorative trophy and a travel bursary worth €1,000 and Mairead was awarded a Certificate of Merit.
