MUSIC impresario Phil Coulter and Rocky the Seagull were amongst the locals to don the town's chains of office last weekend to raise funds for Haiti. Former Wicklow Rose Lisa Marie Berry also tried out the fashion accessory du jour as well as over 100 children and adults from the area.
A total of €430 was raised for the Irish Red Cross relief effort. Cathaoirleach of Bray Town Council Cllr. John Ryan came up with the brainwave of 'Mayor for a Minute,' in the wake of the Caribbean tragedy.
For the small fee of € 2, children could wear the official chain of office and sit in the Cathaoirleach's chair in Bray Town Hall, while grown-up prospective first citizens paid €5.
'It went off brilliantly,' said Cllr. Ryan. 'People are always asking me can they wear the chain so I thought it would be of interest to people,' he concluded.
