Mountain climbers pay a visit to St Andrews
Thursday July 03 2008
The third class pupils at St. Andrew's National School were thrilled to receive a visit from two men who had scaled four of the highest mountains in the world to make money for a building project in Uganda.
Ian Taylor and Graham Kinch visited the school recently to talk about their experiences and tell the children about their young peers in Uganda.
It was their goal to climb the four highest mountains on four continents in one year and attempt to raise ?85,000 for Kitandwe in Africa on behalf of an Irish charity called Fields of Life.
The children were fascinated with what the two men had to say, their teacher having impressed upon them that to talk to someone who had climbed Everest is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The 30 pupils generated their own question then divided in to two groups, with Ian answering any queries and Graham showing the pictures.
