AVOCA PARISHIONERS will soon add a fabulous new word to their vocabulary with the announcement that Avoca Parish Church is celebrating its 150th or SESQUICENNTENIAL anniversary this year.

Avoca parish church was built by the local community back in 1862. Huge preparations are underway for a busy programme of unique events to commemorate and celebrate the lives of the people who built Avoca parish and others who have lived in the community over the past 150 years.

In conjunction with parish Priest Fr. Eamonn Crosson, members of the local community have teamed up to create a spectacular programme of events with something for everyone in the family.

Highlights include a live performance from the magnificent Dublin/welsh Male Voice Choir at a gala concert in the church on February 24; a seminar on Forgotten Women on International Women's Day; a 22 km walk from Avoca to Glendalough and a photo exhibition later in the year. Other events will also be announced.

The official launch takes place this Saturday (February 4) at 6 p.m. mass. Bishop Eamonn Walsh will officiate at the mass and there will be participation from all sections of the community. Complimentary refreshments will be served in the Parish Hall afterwards.
