Residents protest as house prices plummet

Thursday September 13 2007

House hunters viewing homes in an exclusive Delgany housing estate can expect to pass a picket line of protestors who have seen up to €100,000 drop off the prices of their homes.

Residents of the Churchfields estate in the Delgany Wood development, who had tens of thousands of euro knocked off the prices of their homes in just two weeks, have vowed to warn prospective buyers not to purchase the remaining homes in the estate after they failed to get an explanation as to why their house prices had plummeted.

The residents, who demanded a meeting with property developer Elmbawn Ltd., also said that the company's financial director Jonathan Treacy had predicted that 20 per cent would fall off the housing industry before Christmas, a claim which has since been vehemently denied by Mr. Treacy.

Churchfields resident Daithi O Maitiœ says a request for compensation was rejected by the developer.
