Speed indicators a welcome sight

Wednesday February 01 2012

SPEED INDICATORS have been installed on Bray's Southern Cross Road as a way to solve speeding on the busy road.

The route has a speed limit of 60 kph, which locals say is regularly ignored.

' There are motorists exiting housing estates, the IDA Business Park and amenity areas including the swimming pool and Killruddery House,' said Cllr. Sarah Wray who lives in the area and welcomed the move. ' There are unnecessary risks being taken when exiting junctions before the next vehicle speeds along.'

She added that residents have approached her with concerns regarding the safety of children when crossing the road, 'and on many occasions pedestrians crossing at the pedestrian lights fear for their safety as very often the cars are travelling so fast they are unable to stop in time.'

She said that the initiative put in place by Wicklow County Council is an essential aid to assist motorists in being more aware of their driving habits regarding speeding.
