ST LAURENCE'S National School, Greystones, was last week awarded The European Award for Languages Label (EAL) at the newly revamped Croke Park Stadium.

The school submitted a very comprehensive project based on its innovative learning environment called A Whole School Approach to the Teaching and learning of Spanish.

This submission has brought participants added value in terms of competence and motivation and Mrs. Catherine Coveney, Principal hopes that achievement will serve as a model for other schools in Ireland. The European Commission coordinates the Language Label. Schools, colleges, universities, businesses and other institutions apply engaged in language initiatives are invited to apply.

The aims of the Award are to alert the public to the importance of language learning and is designed to recognise creative ways to increase awareness and appreciation of ALL the languages spoken in Europe.
