BRAY'S SEAN KAVANAGH, who is ten years old, has been nominated for the Ireland Involved Awards with Specsavers for his amazing accomplishment this year of completing a 176-mile sponsored tandem cycle.
Sean and his dad Joe cycled from Bray to Cork and raised €30,000 for Cystic Fibrosis. The youngster was one of 30 finalists announced by Volunteering Ireland on Friday, the national day of volunteering.
Other finalists include the founder of the Irish Lebanese Cultural Foundation and the CEO of the Irish Wheelchair Association in Offally.
'One of the upsides to the economic downturn is the increased number of people offering their time and skill to volunteer,' said Volunteering Ireland CEO Elaine Bradley.
The number of entries this year increased by 100 per cent.
The awards will take place at Kilmainham Hospital on Thursday November 5.
