BRAY EMMETS
U-11 football: Bray Emmets Under-11s played their second football game of the 2010 season on Saturday in Old Conna against Westmanstown. This game was a much tougher test than their previous game but they came through it and won on a score of 4-6 to 3-6. Again it was great to see such a good turnout of players and also of parents to support them. It was a game in which every player made a valuable contribution.
The game was won because every player did their very best and kept going right to the end. The most pleasing thing in this game was the fighting spirit that they showed right to the final whistle. There is not enough space to go through all the good things the lads did. Just two examples were Jason in goals making vital goal line saves in the last ten minutes and Cian making a tackle which set up a score for Bray when it was need most. We also welcome Simon Reynolds who played his first game for Bray.
Panel: Fiachra Murphy, Aaron Kennedy, Paddy Redmond, Cian Kavanagh, Daniel Jakob, John Ahearne, Eoghan Martin, Niall Groves, Rory Cotter, Jason Pritchard, Ben Kearney, Noah Cummins, Cormac Foley, Lochlann Dougan, Donncha Morgan, Eoghan Potts, Garret Myhal, Shane Slattery, Cormac Kelly, Simon Reynolds.
ASHFORD
Congratulations to Philip and his team of helpers on the massive success of our first Texas Hold'em tournament. A crowd of over 70 from near and far registered in the Woodpecker on Friday night. It ended in the small hours with a three way tie, with this PRO very happy with the outcome. It was great to see people from our neighbouring villages and towns supporting our fundraising efforts for the pitch development. We would like to thank our sponsors for their kind donations for the draw and a special mention goes to David and Rosemary in the Woodpecker for the lovely food and hospitality. To all who bought lotto tickets on the night, let that be the first of many, we need as many tickets sold as possible.
EIRE OG GREYSTONES
The weekend after next, one awaits it with anticipation and not a little trepidation. With it, we will be able finally to close the lid on the 2009 season with its noteworthy successes and its frustrating uncertainties. Saturday will be the occasion for acknowledging with rewarding presentations the unprecedented set of achievements of our teams and for trumpeting the dedication of our mentors and the club's many workers. And all will be giving vent to their appreciative rejoicing in feasting and bodily sway to terpsichorean rhythms.
A setting which surely has the ingredients for a night of cheerful camaraderie and a very pleasant passing of time. One is, of course, speaking of the Éire Óg Annual Dinner Dance which has by now become an established highlight on the local social calendar and is a date marked on the diary of many of the 'want to be seen at' socialites! The demand for 'a place at the table' is high and tickets are strictly limited so early booking is advisable.
The trepidation aspect refers to that Sunday 2009 league game against Kilcoole, the outcome of which will determine our league status in 2010. For years now we have been hovering on the periphery of Division 1 in both league and championship but have not been able to make the breakthrough. How we would relish testing our mettle against the Rathnews, the Baltinglasses and the St. Patses - what better way is there to gauge our real worth? This year we are tantalisingly close to achieving that goal, the only remaining barrier being this game against Kilcoole - no doubt they are thinking the same thoughts! Hence, even though it is only a league match, its outcome is of such consequence that the game will be played with championship intensity. Our cause would benefit from your support.
The resumption of Juvenile activities in hurling and football is in the immediate offing and the timetable for the various groups is given below.

Just this morning in a casual encounter my interlocutor spoke of the wonder that is the sport of hurling. For him, with no background in the game, 'the best sport of them all' and he regretted its inability to effectively gain a foothold in non-traditional areas. And if proof was needed for his assertion we have only to consider the weekend's All-Ireland Club semi-final between Ballyhale and Newtownshandrum. What a testament to the sport! A match between two teams of amateur players representing two rural towns with very small player catchments to be able to produce a contest of which on any sporting criterion, skill content, excitement, bravery, beauty of movement etc., would be shown to hold its own against any of the games, amateur or professional, played at the weekend.
Now with the wearing of the helmet being compulsory hurling has become a game with a low injury count.
We in Éire Óg are doing our bit, as you can see from the timetable, to promote the game and are offering the youth of Greystones the opportunity to experience the joys and pleasures (and frustrations!) of this highly-skilled sport.

Pauraic, a true gentleman, trained the Billies during the nineties but always kept a keen and close interest in the club. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.
ST. PATRICK'S
There was speculation recently in this paper that St. Patrick's would be returning to adult hurling next year. This is unfounded as following the recent hurling meeting we have adopted a plan to rebuild hurling within the club from juvenile level up and this is our primary focus in the short term.
Well done to Casey O'Brien on landing his first bit of silverware with the county Seniors on Sunday last. This Kehoe Shield win over Armagh, hopefully will stand to them in the forthcoming league campaign. Andy O'Brien grabbed two goals for Wicklow on the day. The Senior footballers also got back to winning ways with our own Paul Earls, Pat McWalter and Shane Morley involved in the victory over Leitrim.
