Club House: As we are all well aware, our new dressing rooms and clubhouse are now completed and operational. Before Christmas, the club had three significant and successful events to proudly show off our wonderful new premises.
Firstly, we had an open night for players and members, past and present to view our spacious new home.
This open night was very well attended and proved to be a great success. Photos of teams, from the early days right to the present teams were on display.
Team sheets of our most successful teams, most notably the teams of 1929, 1939 and 1954 who won Senior football titles were displayed while videos of our present teams were shown.
It was a great opportunity for previous players to relive past glories and the club's history, while our present juvenile and adult teams are creating their own piece of history.
A coming together of Gaelic minded people would not be complete without having some Kerry and Kilkenny influence.
We were delighted to have Pat Ryle and Pat O Connell, from these respective counties present. Both men had being former Kilcoole Boy's primary school principals and were instrumental in the development of our club.
For a lot of players (from my generation anyway), this was our first introduction to Gaelic football and hurling and the love of the games has remained since.
The current Principal of the combined primary schools, Joanne Mcdonagh was also present. Joanne is daughter of former Galway great Mattie. Joanne remains a great help and is full of encouragement for the coaching of both codes in the schools.
Father Liam Belton blessed our new home and along with County board members Pat Mitchell and Mick Murphy and other guests was there to hear current Chairman John Toner give an uplifting speech and highlighted the pride, each member has for the club.
We were privileged to have Eoghan O'gara presenting our juvenile players with Player of the Year and Most Improved Player awards. Each juvenile coach assessed the previous season and Eoghan presented trophies to the relevant players.
December 2 proved a historical day in the club's development when we hosted our first ever AGM in our new building.
It was great to see such a good attendance present at this meeting. The previous year and the future year were discussed. The chairman, secretary and treasurer addressed the audience with their reports.
The outgoing committee of John Toner- Chairman, Colm Hatton- Secretary, Vice- Chair people of Eithne Walsh and Tom Fortune, Treasurer - Tommy Nolan, Juvenile Chairman - Gerry Curry, Juvenile Secretary- Noeleen Evans, PRO - Andy Hanney were re-elected unopposed for the following year. Pat Gammell and Pat Doyle are Honorary Presidents with Eddie Keddy and Jimmy Hatton as Vice- Presidents. Liam Gahan will assist with the PRO, while new committee members Bernard Collier, Karl Cooke and Kris Farrell were also welcomed onboard.
On all events in the clubhouse, refreshments were laid on and thanks to the hard working girlsSiobhan, Niamh, Eithne and Yvonne (hope I didn't leave anyone out) for spoiling everyone and helping make every occasion special.
