Under-21s lose out: A GOOD win for Micko's men on Sunday but one that leaves a lot of unanswered questions. After four rounds of the league Wicklow have threes wins on the board and one very narrow defeat. That leaves them in a good enough position to make a big push for promotion, should Micko decide to go down that road.

However, we are still no wiser about the real strength of the team. There was some very good displays on Sunday, just as there has been in every match but also a lot of slackness at times.

It appears hat we are just going to have to wait until we come up against stronger opposition to get a true reading

And that day may be just around the corner We travel to Pearse Park to play Longford and that without a double will be our biggest test in the League to date.

Casey O'Brien also got his league campaign off to a good start with a win over Fingal on Saturday. They didn't with five players away on holidays. No blame to the lads in question, they picked out the free Sunday to take a break but were then snookered when the match they lost to the weather was pencilled in at short notice.

To get a win in the circumstances must have pleased the new manager no end. HARD LUCK to the U-21 footballers who lost narrowly to Laois. It was a tight enough match and very little could have turned it in our favour. The chances were there but luck was not on our side.

John Healy and his helpers Mick O'Toole and Jim McCormack worked hard to get the team in shape but this was just not their day. WICKLOW'S Leinster Council Representative and man of many parts Marten Coleman suffered a sad bereavement with his sister-in-law Marie Coleman passing away last week.

Maria had borne along illness bravely but her passing was, none the less, a great shock to her family, neighbours and friends. Her burial took place in Lucan.

Hollywood say 'thanks'

IN HIS fourth year in Wicklow Mick O'Dwyer continues to rake in new fans. Two weeks ago it was the Newtown club and their young players that flocked in great numbers when he took his panel of players to train in their grounds

Last week he was over in the West and Hollywood was the venue, but the end result was the same. Nothing organized but the Juveniles turned up just the same.

The training session over everyone headed upstairs in the new clubhouse for refreshments.. The kids had picked a vantage point in the hallway as players and mentors rushed passed. Last in was Micko and he immediately turned his attention to the youngsters. Time, it appeared, meant nothing to the man as he talked to each one individually, answered questions and signed autographs.

Club mentors were highly impressed by the session and the Chairman Pat Dunne rang the Wicklow People the next day to express their thanks to the great Kerrman for the time and effort he put in to the session.

Get well

GET WELL wishes this week to Bray Emmets clubman Robert Murphy who is in hospital this week.

His son Aaron was playing on the Naomh Eoin team in the Leinster Senior final against St Patrick's of Navan, a game that Robert would have loved to watch.

Get well wishes also to Seamus Barnes of Arklow. Seamus works long and hard for the GAA at many levels. First as a player with the Arklow Rocks club, then as Club Secretary, Board Rep, Trainer and anything else you care to mention. He was also a top class referee and was in charge of a number of county finals.

Hope to see you out and about soon Seamus.

Kiltegan dinner dance

THE KIltegan GAA Club and the Camogie Club combined to run their Dinner Dance in Germain's Inis Fail Hotel in Baltinglass on Saturday night.

A year ago at the same event the top table creaked under the weight of the silverware.

However, no-one appeared to notice the difference and all got on with the job of letting the hair down and enjoying the night.

In his maiden speech the new Chairman Pat Keogh thanked his officer board for their support and paid tribute to the outgoing Chairman Mick Cearney. He had special praise for his Secretary Collie Doyle and Treasurer Michael Lennon.

He welcomed Michael ' Flash' Byrne as the new manager of the senior football team and promised him the full support of the committee.

He also welcomed the new hurling management but said there were some loose ends to be tightened up.

He had a special thanks for the outgoing manager Gavin Wynne who had worked so hard over the past two years and did such great work for the club.

The hurling management, Ned Cremin, Seán Keogh and Peter Byrne, were also mentioned.

County Chairman Andy led the guest speakers. After the formalities he thanked the club for their support for the County Board.. 'Your club support over the past year was what we had come to expect from Kiltegan. You have John Timmins and Damien Byrne actively involved in management, County President Peter Keogh and County Selector Michael O'Toole

'2009 was a great year for our county and Kiltegan were very much part of it. You supply players to our county teams at all level in football, hurling and camogie.

You have a big day coming up on Monday when the BBC is due to visit your club. When I was contacted and asked to recommend a suitable club to reflect the true image of the GAA in a rural setting I had no hesitation in selecting Kiltegan.

This is a great chance for us as a county and you as a club to reflect all that is positive about the GAA to a world audience.'

The big draw

Eire Og dinner dance

THE EIRE OG Club in Greystones certainly had certainly had plenty to celebrate when they gathered for their annual dinner dance on Saturday night. Not since the old Greystones Club won a Junior double back in 1956 has the seaside town witnessed anything like this. The three championship cups on the top table – Minor A Football, Junior B Football and Junior hurling told their own story, or part of it. And their could be even more to come.

A great victory over Kilcoole during the week earns the club promotion and a chance to add the Timmins Cup to their collection.

Guest of honour was the Chairman of the County Coiste na nOg Damien Byrne and his wife Ann. County Chairman Andy O'Brien also managed to take time from a busy schedule to drop in and offer his congratulations

Damien Byrne opened his address by paying a special compliment to Felicity Keane who dealt with all juvenile fixtures in the Eire Og club, and the times we are in with so many codes out there looking for the same players its not a easy job to keep every one happy. The amount of work that is been done in Eire Og/Greystones club at juvenile level at both hurling and football for the past number of years is starting paying off.

As there is a lot of work being done in our county with juveniles at both football and hurling by our county coaches and one of them is your very own Colm Gaskin, who has been part of county management. Colm, I would like to thank you for all your work .
