Kilbride secure their Intermediate status

Kilbride 3-09 Aughrim 2-06

Wednesday December 16 2009

Kilbride pulled out all the stops to beat Aughrim in the last match in Division 2 of the SFL at Kilbride on Saturday.

At stake for the Liffeysiders was their Intermediate status. If they lost they were gone down to Junior ranks. A win would see then stay up but would see their neighbours Valleymount make the drop.

While they had nothing to play for beaten county finalists Aughrim set a hot enough pace early on and looked as if they might be out to do Valleymount a good turn. It was not to be.

They ran out of steam and KIlbride got on top and began to tack on the scores.

Goals by Niall Toolis and John Lambe and some good points by county panellist Ciarán Jones brought Kilbride back and good defending by Diarmuid Haughian, Shay Kelly and the Donoghue's saw them hold out for a good win.

So we will still have Intermediate football on the Dublin border in 2010, and perhaps even better days to come.

Noel Kinsella, Owen Cripps, Diarmuid Haughian, CormacHaughian; Martin Donoghue, Shane Kelly, Shane Craul; Patrick Donoghue, Niall Toolis (1-0); John Lambe (1-0), David Balfe (1-1), Niall Donoghue; Mark Kelly, Ciarán Jones (0-7), Andy O'Brien (0-1).
