Wicklow hosts Cumann na mBunscol National AGM

LAST WEEKEND was an important one for Cumann na mBunscol Cill Mhantain when they had the honour of hosting the National AGM. Delegates from all over Ireland came to the Garden County. The venue was the Marriott Druids Glen and the choice was highly complimented by all the delegates for its surrounding beauty and excellent service.
The weekend began with a dinner on Friday night which was attended by County Chairman Andy O'Brien and his wife Ann and County Secretary Michael Murphy. Jim O'Riordan, chairman of Cumann na mBunscol, Cill Mhantain welcomed everyone on the night and Andy O'Brien presented all the members of the Coiste Naisiunta with a Wicklow 125 celebration book as a keepsake. A most enjoyable night was had by all.
The AGM began at 11am on Saturday. Margaret Cunningham, Cathaoirleach welcomed everyone and Joan O'Flynn, President of Cumann Camogaiochta na nGael addressed the meeting. Also in attendance were Liam O'Neill, Chairman, National Games Development Committee and Michael Martin, GAA Primary Level Coordinator.
After comprehensive reports from all the officers, there followed some lively debate. Suffice to say everyone left with a similar goal and that was to promote Gaelic games to all children who wish to play them in a fun and active way. That is maximum participation in as many games as possible.
Two officers of the Coiste Naisiunta resigned from their positions, namely the Development Officer Richard Bowles and Wicklow's Ciaran Byrne as PRO. Both men were highly praised for their dedication and excellent hard work. Jim Fennelly (Cill Channaigh) was elected as the new Development Officer and Eoin O'Cinneide (Uibh Fhaile) as PRO. All delegates in attendance were presented with an excellent booklet that Ciaran Byrne played a big part in compiling.
Wicklow's presence was very much brought to the fore with many photographs included such as Mick O'Dwyer's visits to the schools on 125 day and Trath na gCeist winners, to mention a few. Ciaran's tireless work in the promotion Gaelic games through Cumann na mBunscol must not go unmentioned as it has been tremendous. All in all it was a most successful event and a memorable one for the Garden County!
