Wednesday March 10 2010

Baltinglass: For a change we were blessed with dry crisp weather last Sunday morning, as the frost gradually cleared and the sun made an appearance, mulled wine warmed up some of the large turnout of members who came to honour our Captains Robert Mc Hugh and Olivia Cooney.

Dressed in 1930s vintage outfits they made their entrance in a rather unusual Horse driven Carriage and to much amusement, applause and camera flashing, the champagne bottles corked as the 2010 Captains were officially welcomed into office.

Then after much furore they calmly hit their drives up the first fairway as they were joined by the President Jim Byrne and Lady President June Smith, followed by 86 Men and Ladies who scrambled to every other tee box for the shotgun start.

At the prize giving the Hon Secretary Jim Murray introduced both captains and wished them every success during 2010. Both Captains then spoke and said it was a great honour to be Captains of such a great club, thanked the caterers, all the volunteers who helped in every way possible to ensure a great day was had by all, and promised to do their utmost to make the year a successful one for Baltinglass golf club.
