COLAISTE BHRIDE 4-03 SCOIL CHONGLAIS 0-00

Wednesday March 10 2010

THE COUNTY Wicklow Post Primary Schools senior A camogie championship came to a conclusion in Pearse's Park Arklow on Thursday with the Liam Kavanagh Cup going to Colaiste Bhride Carnew.

The first 18 minutes were scoreless as both defences were on top. The Carnew school had the majority of the possession but could find no way through a resolute backline in which Lucy Cush excelled. Scoil Chonglais had some dangerous breakaways and scoring chances but failed to capitalise on them.

The first score was a point for Colaiste Bhride by Amanda Bolger. This seemed to settle the Carnew team and they added a Mairead Sheehan point and an Amanda Bolger goal to give them a five point interval lead.

Colaiste Bhride had a definite upperhand in the second half and their very skilful approach work led to further scores. Scoil Chonglais battled gamely inspired by an excellent display by Michelle Farrell in midfield. She set up fine opportunities for her forwards but they found the Carnew defence unbeatable. On the few occasions that they found openings through the back line they found Carnew goalkeeper Bridin O'Rourke in top form.

After the game the Liam Kavanagh Cup was presented to the Colaiste Bhride captain Jessica Lifely by Jim Murphy of Coiste IarBhunscoileanna.

Mairead Sheehan was outstanding for the winners while others to catch the eye included Bridin O'Rourke and Emily Rose Byrne as well as the three Lifelys. The team was coached by Joan Lancaster and Sinead Kenny.

Michelle Farrell and Lucy Cush played extremely well for Scoil Chonglais while Sarah Jane Winder and Jackie Hanbidge also had their moments. Marie O'Meara was the coach.
