THIS YEAR'S Tom Ryan Memorial indoor hurling competitions began Arklow Sports and Leisure at the weekend with the U-10 event.

Teams from Kiltegan, Glenealy, Arklow Rock Parnells, Kilcoole and Barndarrig took part and we had some very entertaining and enjoyable fare from these budding young players.

The late Tom Ryan from the St. Patrick's Club in Wicklow gave his life to the promotion of hurling in club and county and these indoor hurling tournaments are a fitting way of perpetuating his memory and the work he did.

Results from the U-10 competition at the weekend were: Kiltegan 11-0, Glenealy 2-0; Kilcoole beat Arklow Rocks 4-0 to 1-0; Barndarrig and Glenealy drew with six goals each; Kiltegan beat Arklow Rocks 90 to 3-0; and Barndarrig beat Kilcoole 5-0 to 4-0.

Marksmen for Kiltegan in the competition were: Karl Furlong (7-0), Colin Keogh (4-0), David Parke (4-0), Eoin Byrne (3-0), Conor Breslin (2-0).

Kilcoole: Sean O'Mahony (3-0), Dan Whelan (2-0), Glen Dunne (1-0), Leo Hanney (10), Cian Davis (1-0).

Barndarrig: Tom Farrell (3-0), Dan Whelan (2-0), Cormac Murray (2-0), Anthony Quinn (1-0), Wayne Costello (1-0), Sean Leonard (1-0).

Glenealy: Fionn McLoughlin (4-0), Cian O'Neill (1-0), Conor Haas (1-0).

Arklow Rocks: Tom Somers (3-0), Shane Mellon (1-0).
