Arklow Boxing Club plan for new season
AT A meeting of club coaches and senior boxers in Arklow Boxing Club on Wednesday night details of the programme for the new season which begins next week were discussed and ratified.
Wicklow ace wins at Fitzwilliam
COUNTY WICKLOW'S Alan Gleeson emerged as winner of the Under-18 Singles title at Fitzwilliam last Saturday after a close encounter against fellow Wicklow player Ciaran Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald dominated the early stages of the match with Gleeson struggling to find some rhythm to his game and won the first set 6-3. An early break by Gleeson in the second set seemed to settle him and he held on to take the set and level the match at one set all.

SOUTH EAST ROAD CLUB: The underage are showing the way again with excellent results from the Bray Wheelers organised Roundwood Grand Prix on Saturday last this morning. Reece Young won the under-12 race with the race largely strung out very early on. Becky Heaney was the only other rider to offer any real competition to Reece when she took a fine second place.
Katie is Queen of the ring
BRAY'S BOXING sensation Katie Taylor is still queen of the ring as she proved at the weekend by adding another gold medal to his trophy sideboard. At Keszthely in Hungary, she reinforced her dominance of women's boxing by winning the lightweight crown at the European Union championships at the weekend.
Wicklow duo achieve their goals
TWO WICKLOW athletes achieved their objectives when they competed in the European championships in Barcelona late last week. Fionnuala Britton from Brittas Bay and Stephanie O'Reilly, Wicklow town, were both taking part in the 3000 metres steeplechase. The objective that Fionnuala set herself was to come through her heat and qualify for the final and she did that.
Exciting action in store as championship hots up
ON SUNDAY, August 8, round six of the eight round Irish Motocross Championship comes to Ferns Motocross Park, just outside Ferns in Co. Wexford. Now that we are in the second half of the series we see the championship points race start to intensify.
Local athletes star at national championships
THE NATIONAL Championships in Tullamore took place recently where in the under19 1500m Niamh Kearney claimed another national title followed by her clubmate Ellie Hartnett in silver position with Aisling McGee in her second 1500m running a personal best to finish in fifth position.
