WICKLOW ROVERS: The first team got back to winning ways when they put in a good solid performance away to Newtown Rangers at the weekend. Luke Byrne hit the back of the net for the third league game running to give the lads a narrow 1-0 win.
The second team took on league leaders Enniskerry YC away from home and were unlucky to come out on the wrong end of a five goal thriller losing 3-2, Brendan Manning from the penalty spot and Mark O'Sullivan were on the scoresheet.
Our third teams good run continues, they travelled to Greystones to take on Charlesland AFC and came home with all three points thanks to a Paddy Clarke goal to give them a narrow 1-0 victory as they continue their progress up the table.
The draw for the second round of the Wicklow Cup was made recently and Tom Doyle's charges, who knocked out Enniskerry YC in the first round, will take on another Enniskerry side in the shape of Enniskerry SFC, this time away from home. Our Division 3 side were handed a home tie against fellow Division 3 side Aughrim Rangers.

CARNEW F.C.
The senior men were at home to Conary United and won 8-0. There were two hat-tricks on the day one by Eugene Jordan and another by Tomás Kinsella. Pádraig Doyle also put two in the back of the net. An outstanding team performance with too may terrific individual displays to single anyone out.
The ladies were away to Courtown and were unfortunately defeated 3-0 in what was a tough game.
The under 12's were at home to Wicklow Rovers in the shield and drew 2-2, Luke Brennan put away both goals on the day.
The under 10's were away to Arklow Town B and lost 4-1 with John Cousins scoring Carnew's only goal
The under 8's had a long trip away to Greystones C and lost 5-1 with Eoin Young on target for Carnew in the second-half.
NEWTOWN JUNIORS F.C.
Only two of our teams were in action last week, the 8's who scored five goals at home for the second week running and the under-12's who shared the spoils away to Arklow Town 'A'.
The 8's continue to play really well and they played some lovely football against Arklow Town 'B'. Daniel Testa gave Newtown an early lead, but the visitors kept plugging away and equalised soon after with a fine solo effort.
Newtown restored their lead when Mark McHugh finished from just inside the box. That lead was increased just before the break when Alex O'Toole applied the finish to an excellent four player move. Early in the second half Arklow reduced the deficit with another fine goal, but Newtown finished the stronger and further goals from Testa and James Crean secured a 5-2 victory.
Best players on the day were Jordan Butler in goal, Ciara Dease, Timothy Hamilton and Kamil Pawlek.
The 12's travelled to Brittas to take on Arklow Town 'A' and came away with a well earned point. In a game that was evenly contested every player can be satisfied with their display on the day, but special mention on the day must go to goalkeeper Seán Carthy who pulled off three or four excellent saves especially a double save in the first half.
The following are the fixtures for the weekend of Saturday 20th/Sunday 21st February: under 8's - no fixture; under 9's at home to Ardmore Rovers 'A'. k.o. Sunday at 10.45 a.m.; under 10's - fixture to be confirmed; under 12's - fixture to be confirmed; under 13's away to Ashford Rovers, k.o. Saturday at 2 p.m.; under 12 girls away to St. Joseph's, k.o. to be confirmed. (Fixtures and kick-off times are subject to change).
Well done to three under 11's who play for our under 12's who have been selected on the WDSL under 11 developement squad namely Ryan Taylor, Dillon Carthy and Seán Carthy. Well done lads from everyone at Newtown Juniors F.C. For all details regarding the club visit our website www.newtownjuniors.com.

ARKLOW RACQUETBALL
Six members of Arklow Racquetball Club travelled to Oldcastle in Co. Meath for the 15th Moylagh Open last weekend.
There was a good turnout for the event with over 50 players, and with many tie-breaker matches the last players walked off the courts at 1 a.m. on Saturday night or rather Sunday morning.
Play resumed at 10 a.m. and finished up at approximately 6 p.m. The presentations of the beautiful Tyrone crystal prizes took place at 6:30 p.m., which some of our own players were successful in securing.
Susan Farrell played her first tournament after an absence of over two years, and managed to fight her way to the Ladies Open Singles final by defeating Donna Ryder (Newport) in the semi 15-6, 15-7.
However, she ran out of steam in the final against Castelbar's Majella Haverty and had to be content with second place.
Susan teamed up with Niamh O'Neill (Castlebar) to also take second place in the Ladies Open Doubles.
Andrew Brennan played in the Men's D/Novice and the C/D/Novice Doubles but was defeated in early rounds.

Joe then teamed up with clubmate Jimmy Gannon to play the Open Doubles and made it to the final where they were defeated by fellow clubmate Adam Neary and his partner Noel O'Callaghan (Fermoy) in a thrilling tiebreaker match.
Jimmy played in the Men's Open Singles but was defeated by Joe Dillon in the quarter-finals. Adam also played in the singles but was narrowly defeated by Martin McConnon (Kingscourt) in an 11-7 tie-breaker. A great weekend was had by all.
The next competition is the All-Ireland Doubles and Overage which are being held the 20th and 21st February in the Arklow sports and leisure centre.
Arklow Racquetball Club would like to thank everyone who helped with the bag packing last weekend, and to Tesco and their customers for their support and generosity.
