NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC: While we managed to get some action in on the field last weekend, the heavy pitches still put paid to a couple of fixtures.

The under 8's travelled to Bray to take on Ardmore Rovers and despite a good team display they lost out on a 3-0 scoreline. Best players on the day were Eimear Douglas, Colm Flynn and Mark McHugh.

The under 9's were involved in the WDSL Futsal Blitz and from their four games played they won 3 and drew 1 game. In total they scored eight goals and conceded just three. Cian Walsh ended the day with 6 goals, while Seán Byrne and Conor O'Toole-Odlum also found the net. The full under 9's squad was, Lee Turner, Seán Byrne, Cian Walsh, Adam Heffernan, Tadgh O'Connor, Conor O'TooleOdlum, Melanie Clarke and Darren Magee.

The under 10's lost 2-1 at Wicklow Town in a game were they led 1-nil through a goal from Corey Sullivan. Best players on the day were the goalscorer, Dion Doyle, Alex Synnott and Seán Gregory.

The under 12 girl's team suffered a rare defeat 4-1 away to Malahide United, the Newtown goal been an own goal. On the day none of the players reached the heights of recent games. The under 12's were in league action at home to St. Anthonys and secured all three points with a good win.

The win puts us level with Arklow Town at the top of the table but Arklow have a game in hand. Dillon Carthy scored four excellent goals, Kenneth Turner scored two lovely goals and there were singles for Steven Kennedy, Seán Dease, Darren Walsh and Vladimir Ribakov. At times the team played some lovely football with Keith Dalton, Evan Moran and Robert Greenan at the heart of many good moves. The following are the fixtures for the weekend of Sat.6th/Sun.7th March 2010,

At a well-attended informal function in the Old Ship pub, Arklow on Friday night last, the club bade farewell to veteran cyclist Tony Kew from Avoca who is retuning to Canada after twenty-one in Ireland.

Tony who is a life-long cyclist kept the flag flying for cycling during the years when it went into the doldrums in the locality. Tony was the recipient of a Glass bowl and a set of the club's latest cycling gear, which has come into stock recently. Tony was of terrific assistance in the setting up of the South East Road club in 2004 He is renowned for his interest in the welfare of members particularly the under age section. He is held in the highest regard by all members and is one of nature's gentlemen and is a big loss to the club.

The aim of the program is to introduce the kids to the basic skills of football through drills designed to be fun and challenging.

Arklow United is committed to furthering the development of its players through coaching and education. It is important for players that they are trained by qualified coaches who have a good understanding of the basic components of coaching and of the game of soccer.

The club is committed to supporting all coaches in achieving the necessary qualifications. The coaches will also use the techniques and drills picked up from the recent visit from Glasgow Celtic academy coaches.

The only needs for the Nippers are a t-shirt, shorts/tracksuit, runners and a drink.
