Niamh continues fine form

NIAMH KEARNEY continued her fine start to 2010.
The Sli Culiann/Greystones AC athlete was this week representing Ireland in the Celtic Cup, where she finished second one second behind winner Abbie Leigh Vernon from England in a new personal best of 4 minutes 40 seconds.
This ends an impressive three weeks for Niamh where she has lowered her personal best twice in the 800m at the senior indoor national championships finishing in fourth overall, claiming the Scottish Indoor U-20 1500m title in Glasgow and setting a new personal by five seconds in Cardiff this weekend over 1500m.
Wicklow sent a good group of athletes to the Masters and "B" championships at the weekend in Roscommon.
Mick Byrne ran impressively to finish second in the over 45 category claiming yet another national medal, Ann Mangan from Parnell AC finished in silver in the national B under-13 championships with Katie Conroy finishing in 12th position in the same race.
Aoife Conroy, Parnell AC, and Amy Howard, Greystones AC, also ran will in the under-15 race with Greystones AC's Cian Baldwin finishing 12th in the under-11 boys, Sinead O'Neil and Richelle Browne finished well in the under-11 girls and Cillian Browne ran strongly in the under-13 boys to round off a good weekend for Wicklow at the National Masters and Juvenile "B" championships.
The second round of the Wicklow Fit4life league took place this weekend in Wicklow town where Greystones AC coach Ryan Montgomery cruised to first place ahead of Mick Byrne of Parnell AC and Wexford's Aouessal Lahcan taking third sport overall.
Eithne Walsh of Inbhear Dee took first senior woman ahead of Lisa Gaynor with Emer Geraghty in third with her daughter Ali Geraghty claiming first junior female with Parnell AC's James Tyrell taking first junior man. Thanks to Inbhear Dee AC for hosting the event.
