Pres Bray's All-Ireland stars take inaugural sports award

Members of the Pres Bray's Under 16s Basketball Team with their Team of the Month award.
Wednesday February 24 2010
THE HARD-WORKING Pres Bray Under-16 basketball team are the first winners of a new sports star of the month award following their All-Ireland triumph against St. Fintan's.
Coached by Marie O'Toole, John O'Brien and Carmel Murphy, the lads swept aside all competition on their way to a nerve wrecking 51 to 47 points win over St. Fintan's High School during a thrilling final in the national stadium.
In their three years as a team, they have been beaten just once, and that was in their first year.
The teenagers who make up the team have been announced as the first ever winners of the East Coast FM Sports Star/Team of the Month competition. As a reward for their efforts they all called into the radio studios last Monday where they were presented with their award by Bill Porter of Avondale Sports and Leisure, the main sponsor of the awards.
Each month the sporting public are asked to vote for their favoured nominee by simply texting the word 'SPORTS STAR' followed by their nomination to (083) 3399103.
The amount of votes for each team will be taken into consideration by the main judges Michael Sergeant, Ger Grehan and David Whelan. By the end of the year the overall winner for 2010 will be decided out of the 12 monthly winners.
