Wicklow riders on the podium

Wednesday February 03 2010

LAST SUNDAY brought the Wicklow Cycles Mountainbike Club (WCMC) to Cloon woods outside Enniskerry for the second round of the Irish Downhill Winter League of 2010.

The drive over was nearly an event it itself with black ice and snow making travelling hazardous.

Everyone arrived safe and sound and with Saturday practice under their belts everyone went for a run to warm up and tighten up their lines for the race runs.

The wind could cut and the ground was rock hard out in the open but it didn't discourage the almost 160 riders out for some podium glory.

Representing WCMC in the Sports class were Brian Conway and Barry Langrel.

Brian had a bad first run but put in a great effort on his second to secure him second place.

Senior WCMC riders were Barry Hamilton, James O'Reilly and Ken Nally. Ken had two clean runs placing 15th. Barry put together a clean first run that secured him 14th place.

James blazed down the track putting two quick runs in, placing him in fourth, just short of the podium.

Impressive for a man that had no practice on Saturday. Eamonn O'Reilly was our only member in Masters, and like his brother James had little practice the day before, he flew down the track giving him the comfort of the hot seat in Masters after the first run.

The rest of the Masters stepped up the pace and unfortunately pushed Eamonn down to third in the second run, still a great result.

A big well done to our lads on the podium - Brian Conway and Eamonn O'Reilly.

Next round of the league is in Moneyscalp, Co. Down on the 14th of February.
