IT WAS a lengthy drive for the Wicklow Cycles Mountainbike Club (WCMC) last Sunday for the penultimate round of the Irish Downhill Winter League of 2010 which was held in Moneyscalp Co. Down.
Eamonn O'Reilly, James O'Reilly, Brian Conway, Jamie O'Brien, Dan Priestley and Chris Devlin were the riders that headed up from WCMC. The track was quite flat at the top and required some pedalling to keep momentum over the roots and rock gardens which suited the fitter of the 100 plus riders that turned up for the weekends racing.
James O'Reilly had a dodgy first run but made it up in his second putting in a 1.19.437 placing him sixth in seniors. Eamonn O'Reilly had two clean runs putting in a 1.20.249 which put him in sixth place.
Brian Conway had a fall in his first run but made up for it in his second run putting in a 1.22.781 to secure him second place in Sports.
Well done Brian, keep it up you'll get the top podium next time! Jamie O'Brien put in two consistent runs his quickest being 1.42.017 placing him eight in a fast U-16 category.
U-14 riders were Dan Priestly and Chris Devlin. Dan put in a 2.08.109 in his second run and placed tenth. His counterpart Chris had a 2.56.837 which placed him 13th.
The final round of the league is being held at Moneyscalp once more on the 27th and 28th of February.
