Wicklow seeking win to ease their relegation worries
Wednesday February 17 2010
WICKLOW'S FIRST XV play their biggest game of the year at home at Ashtown Lane on Sunday next when they take on Garda RFC in the penultimate game of the Leinster League.
Garda currently lie two places and five points below Wicklow in the league.
They travel to Wicklow knowing they need to win to have any real chance of avoiding relegation.
Wicklow for their part need to win to pull away from relegation trouble. Wicklow beat Garda earlier in the season away from home but know they are likely to face a different prospect in Wicklow this weekend. Garda's form has been much improved over recent weeks as they battle tooth and nail to avoid relegation.
Wicklow for their part put in an outstanding performance last weekend away to league leaders Newbridge. Despite going down 17-13 they finished the stronger and left Rosetown disappointed that they were not able to come away with a win.
The bottom of the table has Wicklow on 21 points, Kilkenny on 20 points Garda on 16 points.
All teams have two games remaining. Wicklow face Garda at home and New Ross away. Kilkenny have Coolmine at home and Enniscorthy away. Garda have Wicklow away and Newbridge at home.
Wicklow's fate is in their own hands. They will need to produce a big performance on Sunday and are hoping a huge crowd turn out to roar them to victory.
Kick-off for the firsts is at 3 p.m. with the seconds kicking off at 1.30 p.m.
The draw for the second round of the Newstalk Provincial Towns Cup will be made next week and will be broadcast exclusively first on Newstalk Radio on Saturday, February 20, during 'The Saturday Sports Show'.
A precise time for the broadcast will be announced next week.
Wicklow will be hoping for another home draw having accounted for Naas RFC in the first round two weeks ago.
