Ardmore and Seaview in semis
Wednesday March 03 2010
AVONMORE FC and Seaview Wanderers both advanced to the semi-finals of the Thomas Scott Cup at the weekend with wins over Redbank United and St. Anthony's B respectively.
Avonmore FC somewhat surprisingly struggled to a 4-3 win over Division 2 side's Redbank United.
Bernie Byrne found the net as did Oliver Byrne and Eugene Dunne and James Busher.
St. Anthony's B stood between Seaview Wanderers and a semi-final spot and the Arklow side joined Avonmore in the penultimate round courtesy of a 2-0 win over the Saints at the Kilcoole venue.
Wanderers took the lead in that tie in the 35th minute through Keith Fitzpatrick. And right back Cathal Doyle gave his side some breathing space when he fired home from all of 25 yards.
And while Avonmore and Seaview will now be eying up a final appearance, BBK United still have a bit to do before they can start ordering the match-day suits as the Brittas side only booked their quarter-final place on Sunday with a 5-0 victory over Celtic Stars, who are four places above them in Division 2.
Willie Sinnott opened the scoring at Brittas Park before Cathal Doyle's corner was turned into his own goal by a defender to gift United a 2-0 lead at the break.
Early in the second period, Stars expiring hopes were dealt another blow when they were reduced to 10 men and the hosts took full advantage, adding three more goals before the final whistle.
Veteran Declan Byrne made it 3-0 and then Willie Synnott grabbed a second to put the tie to bed.
Substitute Alan Hudson then grabbed himself some glory with a late strike to add some gloss to the scoreline.
