Arklow Town 2, Newbridge Town 1: A CLINICAL finish from striker James Sheehan with just 15 minutes remaining edged Arklow Town into the last sixteen of this season's SFAI U15 Evans Cup after a dramatic encounter with Newbridge Town at Bridgewater Centre Park in Arklow on Saturday.
The Kildare side made the perfect start with a goal in just the fourth minute, a corner from the left whipped across Arklow's six yard area and a Newbridge head steered the ball past Arklow keeper Cian Ryan.
Just two minutes elapsed before the sides were level with Arklow midfielder Jordan Forde smashing home a free kick from all of 30 yards high into the top left corner of the Newbridge goal.
Forde almost repeated the act just three minutes later when he ran onto a loose ball outside the Newbridge area and forced the Kildare keeper into a speculative save, tipping over the bar. The hosts made three changes at the break and looked sharper from the off in the second half. And with the clock ticking and extra time looming, Arklow were to grab a winning goal.
Dean Doyle, on the right wing, fired across the six yard area finding James Sheehan and the Arklow forward, a constant threat throughout, swivelled and fired home across the keeper to steer the home side into the last 16 of this season's Evans Cup, with a home draw awaiting them in the next round also.
