NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC: Though the weather conditions improved somewhat in the past week, for the second consecutive week it was only the under-10s and the girl's under-12s who saw action. The girl's hosted 'Joeys' from Sallynoggin in a friendly in preparation for the restart of the league.
In a game that produced plenty of exciting football the Newtown girls won on a scoreline of 4-3. Lauren Nolan opened the scoring after ten minutes with a snapshot from ten yards. That lead increased five minutes later when Amy Irwin got the final touch after good work from Lydia Sinnott-Elliott. Just before half-time the visitors pulled a goal back after Newtown failed to clear their lines.
Within ten minutes of the secondhalf Newtown increased their lead to 4-1 after superb goals from Cliona Crammond and Katie Miley after excelllent work by Chelsee Snell, Irwin and Nolan.
Joeys did pull two goals back late on but when the final whistle went it signalled a deserved win for the Newtown girls. On the day it was a good all round team display. Improvement for the under-10s in the Futsal as they had two wins and two defeats this week in Bray.
In their opening game they lost to St. Peter's on a 2-0 scoreline. They followed this up with another defeat 1-0 versus Greystones. However they finished strongly with two wins from their final two games, firstly 21 over Wolfe Tone thanks to goals from Keegan Heffernan and Ross Shine. In their final game they won an exciting game 4-3 over Enniskerry with the goals coming from Michael Coghlan with two and one each from Ryan Whelan and Seán Gregory. Well done lads and keep up the good work.

CARNEW FC
Eventually the league started back this week and we have plenty of games to report on.
The senior men were at home to St. Patrick's B in the league which ended in a 2-2 draw. It was a tough game in which Carnew were very unlucky with some narrow wides and also striking the post on occasions. Fergus Garrett was Carnew's man of the match on the day. Scorers on the day were Maurice Kinsella and Clinton Murphy.
The ladies were away to Forth Celtic in the first round of the Wexford Cup in which Carnew came away with a well deserved 1-0 win against a higher division team. It was a brilliant performance by all the team on the day with a amazing second-half goal from Fiona Byrne.
The under-16s were away to Greystones which unfortunately ended in a 5-1 defeat to Carnew with Brendan McCrea putting away the only goal on the day for Carnew.
The under-12s won their first game of the shield away to Arklow Town with a 2-1 win. Billy Connors was on target twice on the day for Carnew.
The under-9s were away to away to Arklow Town which ended with a 5-1 scoreline in favour of the home team. Seán Kirwan was on target with Carnew's only score.
