WICKLOW ROVERS: The first teams good run in the FAI Junior Cup came to an end in midweek when they went down 1-0 in the fifth round away to a very strong Crumlin United team.
In the league they suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Wayside Celtic at the weekend, Luke Byrne scoring the only goal.
Our second team took on Sugarloaf FC in Bray in a match between the second and third placed teams in the league and Tom Doyle's men were disappointed to lose this game 2-0.
The third team had their best result of the season so far when they took on previously unbeaten and title favourites Carnew at home. The same players who scored in the last game against Enniskerry were on the scoresheet again with Mark Conroy grabbed a brace again while second team manager Tom Doyle continued his rich vein in front of goal with another single to give the lads a great 3-1 victory to move them into the top half of the league and with games in hand on most of the teams above them a top four spot is within their reach and hopefully a place in next season's Bishop Cup.
Everyone at Wicklow Rovers would like to congratulate Rose Fagan on receiving the player of the year award with Newtown girls team. Rose plays her football with our U-13B team under the guidance of John Frazer and Brendan Porter and during the summer months she turns out for Newtown. Rose has been very impressive with some outstanding displays over the last few seasons and would be well deserving of this award. Well done Rose.
We had one hat-trick scorer in the club at the weekend and pride of place goes to Pablo Segui who plays for the U-15As. Well done Pablo.
Our next monthly managers meeting will take place on Monday the 15th of February in the clubhouse at 8.15 p.m. All managers are asked to attend. If a manager cannot make the meeting his assistant manager should stand in for him. As usual both manager and assistant manager are welcome to attend the meeting if they wish to do so.
To all budding soccer stars call down to our soccer camp on a Saturday morning and take part in fun and games while learning the skills of soccer. It all takes place every Saturday morning (weather permitting) in the Whitegates from 10.45 to 11.45. Ages from three years old upwards are welcome to attend.
The camp is under the guidance of one of our most experienced coaches Johnny Dunne so come along and learn the skills of soccer.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS F.C.
It was a good week for all the teams in the club last weekend as from our games played we managed four wins and two defeats.
The under-8s got the ball rolling so to speak with a impressive 5-1 home win over Wicklow Town. Daniel Testa scored a hat-trick while Ciarán Keogh and James Crean helped themselves to a goal each. Best were Colm Flynn, Alannah Melia and Victor Cahill. After the under-9s clinching the Division 1 title last week they took their place in the Premier Division shield and they got away to a flyer with a 2-1 away win over Wicklow Rovers. Trailing 1-0 at the break, they fought back to score twice through Lee Turner and Adam Heffernan. The best players on the day were Melanie Clarke and super subs Tadgh O'Connor and Seán Byrne who both played big parts in the team's comeback.
The under-10s can count themselves unlucky to lose 2-1 at home to Wolfe Tone as their performance merited much more than they got. Ryan Waters scored the Newtown goal while on the day the best players were Conor Doyle, Dion Doyle and Aaron Toner.
The under-12s started their shield campaign with a 2-0 away win over Wicklow Rovers. All in all the team deserved the win as they controlled the game for long periods. Dylan Ford scored from five yards after 15 minutes after good work from Ryan Taylor down the left wing. The second goal arrived ten minutes from time when from a chipped delivery from Keith Dalton, flicked on by Kenneth Turner, Dillon Carthy despatched the ball to the net from eight yards. Best on the day were Vova Ribakov, Evan Moran and Darren Walsh. Like the under-10s the under-13s produced an excellent display at home to Ashford Rovers but without reward in a 2-1 defeat. Alex Heffernan scored with ten minutes remaining to make the score 2-1 and if they had been sharper in front of goal the outcome might have been a lot different. The best players on the day were Chantelle Owens, Becky Cassin, Ciarán Daly and Aodhan Garvey.
The under 12s girls' team had another very good home win, 5-0 over Broadford Rovers. Leading 4-0 at the break after an excellent display they added a further goal in the second half to secure all three points. Only the crossbar and some good saves from the opposing keeper kept the score at five. Lauren Nolan scored twice while Amy Irwin, Lydia Sinnott-Elliott and Jessica Dunleavy scored a goal each. Star performers on the day apart from the scorers were Cliona Crammond, Hollie Murphy, Caoibhe Heffernan and Chelsee Snell.
The folowing are the fixtures for our teams for the coming weekend:
under-8's at home to Arklow Town 'B', k.o. Saturday at 11 a.m.; under-9's - no fixture; under-10's - fixture to be confirmed; under-12's away to Arklow Town 'A', k.o. to be confirmed; under-13's away to Wicklow Rovers 'C', k.o. to be confirmed; under-12 girls - fixture to be confirmed (fixtures and k.o. times are subject to change).
Celebrating birthdays around this time are Keegan Heffernan from the under10's and Bryan Kennedy of the under13's. Happy birthday guys from everyone at Newtown Juniors F.C.
The club would like to extend their deepest condolances to the family and friends of Pat Doyle who passed away recently.

ROUNDWOOD ATHLETICS
The under-17 girls went to Nenagh Indoor Relays on Sunday, January 31, and came home with bronze medals for their efforts. Congratulations to Cara Sheils, Sarah Kavanagh, Raphaelle Smith and Mia Coyne - they are now through to the All-Ireland in March.
The East Leinster Schools Cross Country Competition was held in Avondale on February 4. Roundwood Athletics Association had ten athletes, representing various schools, competing for placements in the Leinster finals; top 15 in each race qualify.
Conditions were soft underfoot with squally windy showers blowing over the challenging course. First up was Mikie Kavanagh in the Senior Race; Mikie had a very strong run and came in a comfortable second which lifted the spirits of all the local athletes.
Altogether Roundwood had seven athletes qualifying for the Leinster finals. Well done to Graeme Phillips, 9th and Ronan Marah, 14th in Inter boys.
Well done to Mia Coyne 14th and Raphaelle Smyth 15th in Inter-Girls, Amy Murphy 5th and Eoghan Marah 7th in Junior Girls and Boys.

Good luck to all our finalists in Leinster Schools Finals on February 24, held in DCU Glasnevin.
