NEWTOWN JUNIORS F.C.: FROM OUR four games played last weekend we recorded one win, a draw and two defeats. The under 8's away day hoodoo continued away to Arklow Town in a 1-nil defeat. In a good performance players to shine on the day were Nicola Doyle, Jordan Butler and Ciaran Keogh.
Bad day at the office for the under 9's as they exited the cup at home to Ashford Rovers on a 1-nil scoreline. On the day there was a lot of effort and toil but it just wasn't to be their day. On the day Melanie Clarke and Cian Walsh tried hard.
Wins for the under 10's have been as rare as a sunny day this year but that all changed last weekend as they booked their place in the cup semi-finals after a 2-0 victory over a gallant Roundwood side. Sean Gregory gave Newtown the lead early in the first half and it was nip and tuck for the rest of the half. Roundwood gave everything in their quest for parity but were dealt a massive blow midway through the second half when Keegan Heffernan smashed a superb second goal for Newtown.
The 12's had no game as their respective opposition failed to field a team. The girl's under 12's played a very entertaining game at home to Templeogue. Both teams cancelled each other out until 10 minutes from time and then the goals started to flow. A mix up in defence alowed the visitors to take the lead, but Newtown fought back to take the lead with two spectacular goals. Lydia Sinnott-Elliott let fly from just inside the opposition half and the ball sailed into the top corner despite the keeper getting her fingers to the ball.
Two minutes later Katie Miley decided to have a go from 25 yards out and the ball flew into the net like a rocket. With time running out Templeogue forced a corner kick and from the resultant kick, a visitors forward scored from close range.

SOUTH EAST ROAD CLUB
JOHN MAGUIRE took an excellent second place in the Cycleways A3 race at Navan on Sunday last from a field of over a hundred riders. Leinster team member John is renowned for his sprinting prowess and used this ability to win the bunch sprint for second place in impressive style as victory went to a lone breakaway. This was his first race of the season and it augurs well for the rest of the season. Young Stephen Bracken took the opportunity to jump a category when he competed in the A4 race and acquitted himself with distinction.
Members of the under age section of the South East Road Club will have very treasured memories from being at the Laurence Dallaglio Cycleslam which had an overnight stop in the Arklow Bay Hotel, Arklow last Friday night prior to departing to Dublin as part of a fundraising cycle taking in all six stadia used in the Six nations rugby championships. The under age members were also permitted to cycle with the celebrity group which included Laurence Dallaglio himself and English cricket superstar, Andrew Flintoff. The under age section of the Club stood in for photographs with these friendly sporting legends who also willingly signed autograph books and cycling jersies and were generous with their time
On Saturday next the club is organising a 100 k cycle to raise funds for the Wexford team in this years Ras. Three club members have been selected for the squad. They are Cathal Redmond, Anthony Mills and Derrick Evans There will be a Ras stage end and start in Gorey, thanks to the hard work of Derek Webb.

BRAY WHEELERS
THIS WEEKEND saw Bray Wheelers out in force for the beginning of the racing season with a sizeable show in both Saturday's and Sunday's races. The crisp spring weather must've put a spring in the legs on Saturday as everybody finished comfortably in their respective bunches. Particular acknowledgement must go to Alex Boland who competed in his first open race in the Mick Lally Memorial race on Saturday, and to Will McCabe who's made a return to road racing after his junior cycling days in the 90s! Pat Fitzpatrick, Anthony Crean, Scott Hannon, Dermot Hickey and Darren O'Toole all completed their first race of the 2010 season with ease. Sunday's race in Navan brought another clear, crisp day. There was only one Bray Wheeler in the A1/A2 category, Ronan Kearney, who described the race as 'fast with a few tough efforts as a couple of breaks were chased down.' He finished comfortably in the bunch, very happy with his form. Ger Ivory, Brian Harris, Jason Howick and Cailan Murphy (first open race as a junior) competed in the A3/A4 category. Well done to all the lads. For further information about all Bray Wheelers activities go to www.braywheelers.com
WICKLOW ROVERS
THE LEINSTER Senior League team had a great win over Wayside Celtic in the second round of the Lanigan Cup last Saturday at the whitegates.A brace of goals fron David O'Sullivan earned them an extra time win to progress to the third round.
Recently Luke Byrne was credited with the goal that won the game for the first team away to Newtown Rangers when in fact it was Stephen Earls so to set the record straight it was Stephen who scored the only goal of the game, well done Stephen.
Our Wicklow League division one side had an excellent win at home to odds on title favourites Enniskerry YC at the whitegates on Sunday. A brace from Dave Rowan and singles from Aidan O'Neill and Conor Tobin gave them an impressive 4-2 victory.
A couple of weeks ago we had one hat-trick hero in the club. That honour fell to Keith Carty who hit three cracking goals for the under 8A's against Ardmore. Well done Keith. The week before last we had two hat-trick scorers, Aidan Long [8C's] and Conor Tobin [WL Div 1] hit hat-tricks. Well done to both..This week we had one hattrick scorer, Gavin Weir, who hit three for the under 15B team at home to Arklow Utd A.
